A Slow At-Home Family Session in Toronto
There is something so sacred about the early days with a newborn. The house feels quieter. Slower. Full in a new way.
This beautiful family had just welcomed their second baby boy and wanted to document this season exactly as it is — tender, a little chaotic and full of love. As a Toronto portrait photographer, I adore photographing these kind of sessions. Nothing is overly posed. Just real life unfolding and gentle direction.
We started in the bedroom, mama holding her newborn, big brother climbing on the bed observing his new sibling, We then moved into the living room with dad, dad, they read a book together, turning pages slowly, sharing soft smiles. I wanted to have good composition, so I gave some direction but I didn’t pose anyone and instead let things just unfold naturally.
After a little while, we stepped into the backyard where big brother ran barefoot and free. There was a ton of laughter, movement and silliniess, which made for some great photos. When i photograph families, I always try to remember to create photographs that make you feel something and that show you how the moment felt like and not just what it looked like.
